See the alien ships in new ‘Skyline’ poster!

After that compelling trailer landed last week, the Strauss brothers’ Skyline has suddenly come to the fore of geek speculation and anticipation.

The good: those giant starships are apparently equipped with human hoovers strong enough to suck up all the Earthlings in a city block but accurate enough to leave the block and all the buildings on it. The special effects on that doohickey are indeed pretty tasty, evoking pop apocalypse the likes of Independence Day.

The bad: Colin and Greg Strause, the special effects guys directing this project, are the same scam artists responsible for AVP: Requiem, potentially the worst science fiction film of the last five years.

Now, a great big, blue poster for the film has arrived and we get to see those starships and their extraterrastial vacuums in action. Despite the fact the alien craft sort of look like the Monodshawan ships from The Fifth Element covered in barbed wire, this is actually a really nice image and the still shot has me more excited for the film than the entirety of last year’s 2012 trailer did for that one.

Here’s hoping that there is at least a semblance of a worthwhile story to go along with the eye candy.
