Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia, Jennifer’s Body) is getting ready to follow in the footsteps of Jamie Lee Curtis, Jodie Foster and Neve Campbell. According to the European Film Market, Seyfried has signed on to Summit/Lakeshore Entertainments’ new thriller Gone where the young starlet will battle a serial killer to save her kidnapped sister. In the script, Amanda’s character Jill wakes up to find her sister missing from her bed and has suspicions that the killer who abducted her years prior is stalking them once more. Tell me that doesn’t have more than a hint of Elm Street to it.
Whether or not the picture is targeting the horror crowd or the Lifetime suspense thriller crowd remains to be seen. With plot points like disbelieving authorities and quests to confront the abductor, I’m suspecting it’s the former but details right now are hazy. What is known is that Allison Burnett has written the script and Brazilian filmmaker Heitor Dhalia will be directing. An talent sought after by Hollywood, Dhalia will make his English-language debut with Gone. Let’s hope he fares better than most international directors who end up doing American thrillers.
With her character being called ‘smart and fearless’, Seyfried has an opportunity here to break out of her teen star mode and give us a tough woman of action. I’m intrigued and hope that the film is unique enough to merrit the talent involved in it across the board.
And if it turns out to be aglorified slasher flick? Well, I guess that would be ok too.

Hopefully her shirt will be gone in this.
That sounds like shit. Seriously.
I think derivative is being kind to it.
