Emily Blunt and Band of Horses in ‘Your Sister’s Sister’ trailer

Premiering at TIFF and now making the rounds at the Tribeca Film Festival, Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister gets a new trailer complete with Band of Horses crooning in the background. That’s just about a right for a Shelton’s gentle little indie that sees her moving further out from her /mumblecore’ beginnings. The usually charming Blunt and DeWitt are at the helm of this seemingly light-hearted love triangle, that amusingly centers around schlubby Mark Duplass (one half of directing duo The Duplass Brothers). Shelton made her mark with Humpday several years ago, and looks to expand her bag of tricks with Sister. The trailer looks like to have spoiled some of the slender story, but I confess a curiosity in seeing how these three interact together on screen.

Here’s the synopsis: A year after his brother’s death, Jack is still emotionally fragile. When he makes a scene at a memorial party, Iris decides to intervene. She gets Jack to oil up his old bike and drive out to her father’s cabin on an island on Puget Sound, where she hopes he will be able to work through things. When Jack arrives at the cabin, he does not find restorative solitude but instead Iris’ sister Hannah, nursing a wounded heart and a bottle of tequila. After throwing back a few drinks, these two end up getting to know each other a little more intimately. Their hangover wake-up call arrives the next morning in the form of Iris with a bag of groceries in hand.

Your Sister’s Sister opens this summer on June 15th.
