I understand the concept of having a recognizable brand or trying to offer audiences a comforting, familiar venue, but Hollywood is curently courting the worst kind of redundancy.To drive the point home just a little more, here’s a photo of its newest prom date.

Here’s Let Me In’s Chloe Moretz as Sissy Spacek as Carrie White. Expect this to be a retooling–i.e. complete retread but probably tamer–of the original horror classic Carrie by Brian Depalma adapted from the Stephen King novel.

Moretz looks fine, but here’s the thing. On her own, she’s not the first choice for Carrie, a put-upon, slightly odd duck of a high-school student. She’s seemingly been hired to try and channel Spacek’s quirkiness. She will no doubt pull it off–more likely than Julianne Moore capturing the right kind of hysteria that Piper Laurie had as Ma White– but will the final result will be worth it?
