Jamie Bradshaw and Alexander Doulerain‘ Branded seemingly arrived out of the blue, heralded with a trailer at last month’s Comic Con and suddenly hitting the radar of sci-fi nerds everywhere. And why not, it’s a reasonably unique idea and it looks like a visually intriguing execution as well.
There are shades of They Live and The Matrix in Branded, but it’s over-arching plot thread is bizarre and mindbending; that a code in the human brain has been planted their by the very brands they feel compelled to purchase. In the world of the film, those brands seem to be organic creatures waging a war for humanity’s buy-in and consumer hunger.
Ed Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor, Ingeborga Dabkunaite, and Max Von Sydow are amongst the dynamite cast assembled and it’s no surprise really that writing/directing team Bradshaw and Doulerain are marketing executives. The film releases on September 7th and we have a variation on the old trailer here for your viewing pleasure.
What do you think? Is Branded gunning for a Philip K Dick vibe, or is it just one more generic sci-fi thriler hiding out on the fall release schedule?
Personally, I’m looking forward to this one and rooting for it to succeed. It looks and sounds ambitious. Now lets hope that it isn’t a case of a compelling trailer hiding a bland or misguided film.

so this movie has an early September release date and the nerds are lining up behind it? I’m going to go ahead and call it the movies blows harder then a hooker at a bible convention
again, why are you so angry?
Angry WTF are you babbling about? Oh I get it you’re a wuss.
Ha. Nice. I was not trying to offend or anger you further. I was merely pointing out that you never post anything positive about anything. All apologies. Have a nice day, whoever you are.
Really that’s your problem little buckaroo? let me explain something to you that you might understand when your testicle drop, MEN speak plainly and true. When something suck it sucks you don’t sugar coat it like a women. Christ I don’t believe I have to explain that to you Nancy boy.
Further you simpering asshat movies dumped in September are historically BAD that’s why they drop them there its like what they do in January. Also anything the online nerd and geek community lose there collective shit over is almost invariable awful since nerds and geeks have zero decrement and awful taste. The reason for this is that they are all fat virgins and their brains are clogged by the tons of gravy they have consumed. See junior that was positive.
Someone is sensitive. I was never trying to be rude to you. The original “why so angry” comment was mostly a joke. But, I guess when sitting in a dark room on a computer all day, a person would tend to lose the ability to recognize a joke, let alone take one. I am sorry you found it necessary to go right to name calling. But, you should know, that not one thing you have said offended me. All I took from this was to never again acknowledge your existence.
Movies are often not great in September but it’s not unheard of for one or two interesting ones to pop through. Particularly when we are talking about a smaller, low budget film.
Just a few good September movies:
L.A. Confidential
The Game
3:10 To Yuma
The Illusionist
The Edge
Stir of Echoes
Ronin
The Way of the Gun
Almost Famous
Spirited Away
Matchstick Men
The Rundown
Lost in Translation
Shaun of the Dead
Assassination of Jesse James…
The Town
Take Shelter
Typically, yes, September is a wasteland, but there’s precedent for some very good movies getting released during the timeframe.
“It was a joke” Really that’s the tack you’re going to take you basement dwelling dweeb? then you put a qualifier of “mostly” on it? jesus you’re a coward on top of being a pussy. sure go right ahead and project your dark room existence on to me douche nozzle.
Here’s the Angry response Nathan a majority of movies you listed while good are the exception for September since a majority, by far, of movies dumped in September suck out right. Further speaking angrily(in a passive aggressive cowardly “joking” manner of course) for the Cheeto dust encrusted shut ins in the audience more then few of the ones you named are just decent to down right BAD.
well, yes, they are the exception, which is what ‘could’ happen for the film above. There are plenty of examples of movies that will probably suck hard this September–Cold Light of Day, Resident Evil:Cash-In, etc.
Some of those movies I listed as good examples were also pimped by the ‘nerds’ and still ended up being worthwhile. My rule of thumb with that particular audience is that their opinion doesn’t really matter either way. What they love or hate is usually controlled by soooo many subjective factors that don’t influence my enjoyment at all; whether they proclaim something a hit or a miss, I couldn’t begin to predict whether it’s going to work for me.
The truth is I enjoyed the Branded trailer, and I hope it’s a good movie. Maybe it isn’t, but I’m not quite at the point where I’m going to assumne every movie released in a certain month is garbage because a) some people are raving about it and b) it was releaased in that month.
It was originally 100% a joke. The only reason it is now “mostly” a joke is because I was right. You are a very angry person. Where does all the tension come from? The fact that you let three words, not even said to you in person but on a website, get you this angry is kind of sad. This is my last response to anything you post on here. I hope you enjoy the content of this website and continue to check it out. It’s been fun.
