Joss Whedon slated to co-write an ABC pilot for Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel has releaaed an announcement concerning the television phase of their empire and not surprisingly Joss Whedon’s  name is at the very center of it. That Whedon, on the heels of his Avengers success, would be considered the frontrunner for bringing the Marvel Universe to the small screen is sort of a logical next step for the studio. ABC has  ordered a pilot episode for a  S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series and Whedon is slated to co-write it

I personally prefer Whedon on the small screen where he has more time to flesh-out his scenarios and makeshift families of characters, and it woill be interesting to see how Whedon envisions the inner-workings of S.H.I.E.L.D in a venue apart from the Avengers characters. The series will feature writing not just from Whedon but also his brother Jed, and if time commitments permit, Joss will also direct the pilot.

As someone who quite enjoyecd  The Avengers and mostly enjoys Whedon’s tv work, I’m happy to see Marvel opening up new opportunities for him. I am however curious to see if the Marvel success on the theater screen can be replicated on the small screen. It seems like a sure thing, but Whedon hasn’t had the best of luck with tv series post-Buffy and Angel.

What do you think of this news? Will Tv be the next undiscovered country ripe for Marvel’s pillaging?
